The Datastay Data Manger controls how all information is stored, controlled, and accessed within the Datastay environment. This applies to both product and process data and allows companies to have extensive control over the way information is presented to users. Based on a virtual “Workspace” concept, users can access related collections of information in the way that makes the most sense for their organization. As a result, the Datastay environment can be leveraged across a greater set of users, including external partners, with the assurance that users can only access the information they are authorized to access.

Through the Data Manager organizations can also capture and control the multiple relationships that exist across their products and information, including structural relationships that are used for bill-of-materials, logical relationships (such as sourcing relationships), or user defined ad-hoc relationships. This functionality supports one of the fundamental Datastay PLM philosophies; that everything related to a product should be accessible from one start point.

In addition, the Data Manager controls files stored within the Datastay environment. It provides powerful check-in / check-out security over any file type so that multiple users are never able to check-out a file simultaneously. This completely eliminates conflicting updates. Furthermore, the Data Manager automatically archives all old versions of files to ensure that the entire version history of a file is maintained, and that users can revert at any point to a past version.
